Adventures in Eating

Setting: backyard patio, sitting at the table for dinner

Time: 7:00 pm

Characters: Kiddo, a 2 1/2 year old boy and his mother

Plot Synopsis: the mother is trying to feed her son a hamburger and fries.

Kiddo: More fries, Mommy?

Mommy: Eat some hamburger, and then you can have more fries.

Kiddo: More fries!

Mommy: No, first you need to eat your hamburger. You need some protein!

Kiddo: (pointing at cut-up pieces of hamburger) Protein?

Mommy: Yes, your hamburger is made of protein.

Kiddo: (still pointing at cut-up pieces of hamburger) Protein, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen...

Mommy: (falls off the chair laughing, then runs off-stage into the living room and tells her husband all about it. The two share a laugh. Mommy returns to the patio.) Are you going to eat your hamburger?

Kiddo: All done! (Kiddo gets down from his chair, takes the hamburger bun inside and drops crumbs all over the newly-swept kitchen floor.)

That is so cute.

I wonder why kids seem to not like to eat meat very much. I remember not really liking it as a kid, and my kids don't like to eat much of it either. Weird.
